“Build Levees Not Bombs!’

Howdy!

I am safely in Washington D.C. and doing well.  I’m pretty sure I haven’t stopped moving for five days but D.C. has been great.  On Saturday, I went to the March on Washington protesting the war in Iraq and took some excellent photos.  Everything from naked hermaphrodites representing Breasts not Bombs to screaming matches between fundamentalist christians and angry radicals yelling “Heil Hitler.”  We danced to drums in the street and took pictures of all the crazy stuff happening around us. That night I saw Ted Leo and Theivery Corporation.  So freakin good. Otherwise I’ve been going to classes and getting to know the kids on my trip. They are an excellent group of people and no one seems to hate anyone else just yet.  We will be spending the next week doing lots of course work: ethnographies, visiting NGO’s, and the World Bank, and LOTS of reading and paper writing.  Anyone who told me that this was going to be a 9 month vacation was way way way off.  I’m having an excellent time and can’t wait to get on the plane to England!  I may or may not update before I leave.

Much Love,

Ms. Gersh

“…and she’s always gone too long anytime she goes away.”

Hi all!

The addresses and dates for each location on my trip are listed below.  Please send me lots of letters and pictures whenever you get the chance!

I will try to post an update of what I’m up to on this site whenever I can get to a computer.  Also, we have to write these things called “Letters Home” in each country that we visit.  They are collaborative compositions written by the students in the program about what we’ve experienced in each place.  I’m sure they will be really flowery and sappy but they might be a good read.  You can check them out at this link…

www.ihp.edu

Go to the “Rethinking Globalization” section and click on Letters Home.  They will be published a few days after we leave each place.

I will miss you all and I’ll be home before ya know it!
